After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach /priːtʃ/ 講道,佈道, 說服 in the towns of Galilee.

When John, who was in prison  /ˈprɪz.ən/ 監獄, 監禁,關押, 關押制度, heard about the deeds of the Messiah  /məˈsaɪ.ə/彌賽亞, he sent his disciples

to ask him, “Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect  /ɪkˈspekt/ 想, 預料,預計, 期待someone else?”

Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see:

John UK  /ˈdʒɒn/ US  /ˈdʒɑːn/

The blind receive 得到, 收到, 受到 sight 視力, 景象, 所見之物, the lame walk, those who have leprosy  /ˈlep.rə.si/ 痳瘋病 are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed  /proʊˈkleɪm/ 宣佈, 聲明, 表示 to the poor.

Blessed is anyone who does not stumble 行走, 絆腳, 絆倒 on account of me 因爲我.’

As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces /ˈpæl.ɪs/

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my messenger  /ˈmes.ɪn.dʒɚ/ 送信人, 通訊員, 信使 ahead of you, who will prepare  /prɪˈper/ your way before you.’

Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist /ˈbæp.tɪst/ 浸信會教友; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence /ˈvaɪə.ləns/ 暴力行為, 激烈的言辭, 猛烈, and violent 引致受傷, 使用暴力的, 強暴 people have been raiding it.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.

And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.

Elijah / iˊlaidʒә /; /E.li.jah/

Whoever has ears, let them hear.

“To what can I compare /kəmˈper/ this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

‘We played the pipe /paɪp/ 管子, 管, 管道 for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge  /dɝːdʒ/ 哀樂, 輓wǎn, and you did not mourn.’

For John came neither  /ˈnaɪ.ðɚ/ /ˈniː.ðɚ/ 兩者皆非,兩者都不 eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’

約翰來了,也不吃,也不喝,人就說他是被鬼附著的;

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton 好吃貪杯的人, 暴飲暴食者 and a drunkard  /ˈdrʌŋ.kɚd/ 酒鬼,醉鬼, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved  /pruːv/ 表明, 證明是,結果是, 證實 right by her actions /ˈæk.ʃən/ 行動過程,做某事.”

Then Jesus began to denounce 批評, (公開)譴責,痛斥, 指控 the towns in which most of his miracles /ˈmɪr.ə.kəl/ 奇跡 had been performed /pɚˈfɔːrm/ 做, 進行, 施行, because they did not repent 後悔, 悔過,懺悔.

Woe /woʊ/ 悲傷, 悲哀 to you, Chorazin  /ˈkɔːr.əzin/ ! Woe to you, Bethsaida /ˌbɛθ.ˈseɪ.ɪ.də/! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth /ˈsæk.klɑːθ/ 粗麻布,麻袋布 and ashes/ˈæʃ.əz/ 骨灰.

But I tell you, it will be more bearable 承受得起的 for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

And you, Capernaum /kə’pɜ:niəm/, will you be lifted  /lɪft/ 舉起,抬起,升起 to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades /ˈheɪ.diːz/ 陰間. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained 停留,留下, 保持不變,仍然是, 剩餘 to this day.

But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

At that time Jesus said, “I praise /preɪz/ 表示贊成, 讚揚,表揚, 神 you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise /waɪz/ 明智的, 英明的, 聰明的 and learned /ˈlɝː.nɪd/受過教育的, 學識豐富的, and revealed /rɪˈviːl/ 揭露, 洩露, 透露 them to little children.

Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary /ˈwɪr.i/ 極為疲倦的 and burdened 重負, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke  /joʊk/ (鑰k) 軛 upon  /əˈpɑːn/ 在…上 you and learn from me, for I am gentle 文靜的, 和藹的, 溫柔的 and humble 謙虛的,謙遜的 in heart, and you will find rest for your souls 精神, 靈魂, 心性,心靈.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
